“An experimental sound with songs that feed seamlessly into each other”
- Grunt Magazine
Join The Circus! Introducing Treemask and the mysterious world surrounding them.
Born in Bristol out of feelings of not belonging, Treemask take the emotional challenge of being outcast, and use their music to seek their own mainstream. Encouraging their audience to join them at the circus, and embrace their identities, the music reaches out a hand to like minded individuals.
Having released their debut single Pint Of Blood back in May, and follow-up single, the eerie In December in July, the quintet have returned with their next output, Law showcasing the breadth of their sound.
Blending the sonics of contemporary influences such as Black Country, New Road, Maruja and Black Midi, as well as drawing from elements of Radiohead, Echo & The Bunnymen, Slint, and The Velvet Underground, Treemask deliver ethereal, yet often dark, unsettling sonics, standing out against their peers, and the saturated music scene which surrounds them.

Most of the songs are also being given a new life and finding their own place within Treemask’s world, having been written by frontman Tom Phillips years ago, moving through bands and navigating life with him. There’s also a huge amount of trust and honesty between the members which is extremely evident when you spend time in their company; the chemistry between them both musically and interpersonally makes it clear why this works so well. You can tell they’re comfortable enough to critique each other and provide creative input in a collaborative and understanding way without causing any hurt.
This is what the whole world of Treemask is about. “Through the music, I want to feel like I’m reaching out to people who feel like they’re freaks and don’t fit in,” Phillips explains.
Whether you’ve found the circus, or you’re feeling so far from home and seeking some kind of comfort, come on in and Join The Circus. You’re more than welcome here.
